Structure of Government
Miami Township has a Township form of government. The Trustees govern the
Township and the Clerk is the fiscal officer. Each is elected for a four year term,
on a nonpartisan ballot. One Trustee and the Clerk are elected in the same election
and the other two Trustees are elected two years later. On the first of January of
each year one of the Trustees is designated President of the Board.
The Board of Trustees of Miami Township meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at
7:30 p.m. at the Miami Township Hall at 112 South Miami Avenue in Cleves, Ohio.
Township Trustees serve on the following committees: Administration, Fire/EMS,
Police, Roads, Zoning, Board of Health, Senior Center, Cemetery and Waste Collection.
Miami Township is in the First Congressional District (U.S. House of Representatives),
the 34th Legislative District (Ohio House of Representatives) and the 8th Ohio Senate
District.
The Villages of Cleves, North Bend, and Addyston are located within the Township, and
have a Mayor/Village Council form of government.
The principal industries located in Miami Township include DuPont Chemical, Owens
Corning, Ashland Oil Co., Royster Clark Chemicals, Bayer Chemical, and the Miami Fort
Station of Cinergy.
Education in Miami Township is provided by the Three Rivers School District.
The Clerk's office is currently on the Uniform Accounting Network (UAN), a computerized
accounting system which is affiliated with the Auditor of State, Ohio.
Monies to operate the local government of Miami Township come from a variety of
sources. The majority of funds come from real estate and personal property taxes
which are collected by the Hamilton County Treasurer. Other funds are received from
gasoline taxes, auto license taxes, inheritance taxes, fines, interest on investments,
cemetery operations, permits, and cablevision contracts. |
