**With the summer months and July 4th holidays approaching, firework display shows will be more prevalent around the community. The State of Ohio has now allowed the purchase of fireworks for consumer use. Miami Township Fire Dept. - Code Enforcement / Community Risk Reduction would like to provide safety recommendations so everyone can experience an enjoyable show. 1 - Fireworks should be handled in a safe and responsible manner.
2 - Persons under the age of 18 should not handle fireworks.
3 - Make sure there is a 70-foot safety radius per inch of shell size in all directions between the fireworks area and your guests.
4 - Make sure your fireworks area is free of overgrown vegetation.
5 - Fireworks should not be discharged during drought conditions.
6 - Make sure fireworks are being discharged in a safe direction.
7 - Fireworks should not be used in parking lots or next to multifamily dwellings or in heavy residential areas.
8- -Fireworks should not be discharged adjacent to public roadways.
9 - Mortars should be anchored in the ground securely.
10 - Keep undischarged fireworks away from open flames, campfires, etc.
11 - Fireworks that fail to detonate due to malfunction should not be approached or handled.
12 - Fireworks should not be discharged or handled by persons under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
13 - A fire extinguisher or water hose should be accessible and on site during your fireworks show.
